Project Manager

Join NKT’s Grid Solutions team to deliver onshore high-voltage cable projects and service level agreements across the UK and Ireland, from planning to commissioning and handover.

Reporting to the Head of Project Execution, you’ll manage customer relationships and coordinate teams to deliver turnkey, supply and jointing, and supply-only projects safely, on time, within budget and to specification.

What you’ll do

Managing multiple contracts rather than one permanent site, you will:

  • Own project programmes, resources, documentation and delivery milestones with Planning.
  • Manage customers and lead progress, design review and interface meetings.
  • Coordinate UK and Cologne engineering teams to prepare accurate construction information.
  • Manage civil works and cable installation subcontractors, reviewing preparations and clarifying scope.
  • Coordinate project HSE compliance, safe systems of work and hazard reviews with HSE colleagues.
  • Ensure inspections, testing and quality checks meet client and NKT requirements through handover.
  • Manage design changes, document control and technical queries, supporting negotiations.
  • Oversee contracts, early warnings and compensation events; chair monthly budget and programme reviews.

What you bring

You’ll bring:

  • At least five years’ experience on large EHV engineering projects; HV/EHV cable experience.
  • A project management qualification and ability to manage FIDIC and NEC contracts.
  • Commercial awareness, including early warnings, compensation events and project reviews.
  • Relevant HSE and sustainability legislation knowledge and experience with principal contractors.
  • Solid English communication, team leadership and relationship-building skills; German is not essential.
  • Ownership, sound prioritisation, structured problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft applications and a full driving licence.
  • Relevant engineering qualification, NG Person/CSCS card and AutoCAD skills; experience will be considered.

Location and travel

Based in the UK or Ireland, you’ll travel approximately 50% of the time for site visits, customer meetings and European factory visits and acceptance tests. Other time will be office or home-based, as agreed, with visits to Teesside and Glasgow for team and client meetings.
