Are you known for your pragmatic approach, do you effortlessly translate complex legislation into practical advice, and do you get energy from optimizing processes? Within our large procurement department in Aalst (Hofstade), we are looking for a Legal Counsel Procurement.

Your Role

As a Legal Counsel Procurement, you take ownership of the legal contracts framework within Procurement. You ensure clear standards, user-friendly contract tools, and pragmatic legal support, enabling the purchasing organization to work efficiently with the appropriate legal protection. Your main tasks and responsibilities lie in the following areas:

• Contract governance & harmonization: You analyze, review, and harmonize contracts within Procurement, establishing a clear and user-friendly contract matrix that supports the purchasing organization in selecting and applying the correct contract type.
• Contract drafting & template management: You develop, maintain, and simplify contract templates, clauses, and legal text matrices to standardize, accelerate, and strengthen the contracting process legally.
• Legal risk management: You identify and manage contractual risks, translating relevant obligations from master agreements into supplier and subcontractor agreements where necessary, in collaboration with contract managers and project leads.
• Legal support: You provide legal support in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements with suppliers and subcontractors. You safeguard organizational risks while combining this with a pragmatic and business-oriented approach.
• Legal advisory: You advise Procurement and the business on legal matters, including general and specific terms and conditions, contractual clauses, and other legal documents. You translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical, and applicable advice.
• Regulatory compliance: You monitor relevant changes in laws and regulations, translating them in consultation with the Legal Department into concrete adjustments for contract templates, clauses, and processes.
• Legal knowledge & awareness: You further develop legal expertise within the purchasing organization by providing training and guidance on general and special contract terms, contracting principles, and relevant legal points of interest.
• Continuous improvement & simplification: You identify opportunities to further simplify, digitize, and professionalize contractual processes, documents, and legal standards, balancing legal compliance with operational efficiency.

What do you bring?You hold a Master's degree in Law and preferably have experience in a corporate or procurement environment. You possess thorough knowledge of contract law and relevant regulations.

• You excel in accurately drafting, analyzing, and adapting complex legal documents and templates.
• Thanks to your strong communication skills, you can clearly convey complex matters. You are fluent in Dutch, English, and French, both spoken and written.
• You are a strong negotiator with a result-oriented and proactive mindset.
• You work meticulously and with a strong attention to detail while maintaining an overview in a growing environment.
• You are proficient in MS Office.
