Lead Project Engineer

Location: Delft Office and Project Site (Offshore).

Job Summary:

The Lead Project Engineer is a key technical authority responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of offshore cable installation projects. This role involves overseeing the full engineering lifecycle of subsea cable operations, providing leadership to engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and safety regulations. The Lead Project Engineer serves as a key technical advisor within project teams and collaborates closely with internal departments and external stakeholders.

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Engineering Leadership: Leading engineering scopes of work related to offshore cable installation, from feasibility and design to execution and close-out.
  2. Design Oversight: Overseeing and reviewing engineering deliverables including route planning, burial assessments, cable protection strategies, and installation methodologies.
  3. Technical Interface: Acting as the primary technical liaison between clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams, ensuring all technical aspects are aligned.
  4. Installation Preparation: Supervising preparations for offshore campaigns including cable lay procedures, load-outs, deck layouts, vessel readiness, and interface checks.
  5. Team Coordination: Mentoring and supervising project engineers, coordinate cross-discipline inputs, and ensure high-quality outputs in all project phases.
  6. Offshore Supervision: Having the opportunity to participate in offshore campaigns when necessary to support execution, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  7. HSE Leadership: Implementing health, safety, and environmental excellence throughout project planning and offshore operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and best practices.
  8. Risk Management: Identifying technical risks early in the project lifecycle and developing mitigation strategies in collaboration with project management.
  9. Continuous Improvement: Contributing to innovation and optimization in offshore cable engineering, installation methods, and project delivery processes.

Key Requirements:

  1. Minimum 5 years of experience in offshore cable installation, including project engineering and offshore campaign involvement.
  2. Proven track record in leading engineering teams in the offshore energy sector.
  3. In-depth understanding of offshore installation equipment, vessel operations, and cable protection systems.
  4. Proficiency with engineering tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, Orcaflex, GIS systems, etc.).
  5. Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
  6. Experience with industry standards (e.g., DNV, ISO, IEC) and regulatory requirements related to subsea cable systems.
  7. Willingness to work offshore and travel as required by project needs.
  8. Ability to live and reside in Netherlands.
