Embed sustainability into complex transmission projects

NKT contributes to the renewable transition by delivering power cable solutions for large-scale transmission projects. As Senior Project Sustainability Manager, you establish and lead the sustainability execution delivery function across the Transmission project portfolio. You act as the single point of contact toward Project Execution for sustainability execution planning, prioritisation, and follow-up - ensuring commitments are translated into executable plans and delivered with consistent governance, quality, and audit readiness.

Own execution governance and tender-to-execution continuity

In this role, you own the execution governance for project sustainability delivery: cadence, workload planning, status visibility, and escalation across projects. You lead tender-to-execution handovers so commitments do not get lost at mobilisation, and you standardise tools and routines (e.g., KPI trackers, evidence packs, reporting packs) to reduce rework and strengthen audit readiness.

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Act as the single point of contact toward Project Execution for sustainability execution planning, prioritisation and portfolio follow-up
  • Own execution governance (cadence, workload planning, status visibility, escalation) to ensure delivery is resourced and risks are surfaced early
  • Lead tender-to-execution continuity and ensure commitments are translated into executable plans and tracked delivery
  • Coach and develop the execution delivery line (Project Sustainability Managers / Project Sustainability Associates) to improve consistency and predictability
  • Standardise templates and routines (KPI trackers, evidence packs, client reporting packs) and capture lessons learned across projects
  • Coordinate cross-functional interfaces (Engineering, Procurement, Installation, QHSE, Legal, Commercial/Tender) to embed sustainability in day-to-day execution

You will be based in Cologne, Germany, working closely with international project teams. You will report to Head of Sustainability – Transmission Business Line and work in close day-to-day cooperation with the Project Manager(s) and the project organisation. Collaboration across Engineering, Procurement, Installation, QHSE, Legal, and Commercial teams is essential. Some travel may be required.

Collaborative leader with strong execution governance mindset

You work with structure and clarity, build trust across functions and cultures, and create transparency in complex environments. You are comfortable prioritising, escalating early, and driving predictable delivery through routines and standards. You also have:

  • University degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Proven experience leading sustainability delivery across complex tenders and/or major infrastructure projects, including tender‑to‑execution mobilisation and delivery governance
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross‑functional coordination skills (engineering, procurement, installation, QHSE, legal, commercial/tender) with ability to drive prioritisation and escalation
  • Experience building consistent delivery routines and templates across projects (e.g., KPI trackers, evidence packs, client reporting packs) to improve audit readiness and reduce rework
  • People leadership / coaching experience (or strong capability) to develop and quality-assure outputs across a delivery line Project Sustainability Manager and Project Sustainability Associate.

Contribute to sustainable infrastructure and NKT growth journey

NKT is committed to developing a diverse organisation and culture where people of diverse backgrounds can grow and are inspired to do their best. We believe that a diverse organisation enables long-term performance, and that an inclusive and welcoming culture creates a better work environment.

You will be part of an international organisation working on large-scale infrastructure projects central to the energy transition. This role offers opportunities to expand your knowledge across sustainability topics such as circularity, human rights, biodiversity, and compliance, while collaborating with experienced colleagues across engineering and project execution.

"As a leader, I value clear governance, reliable data, and practical sustainability plans that the whole project team can apply. You will be an important partner to the Project Manager and our customers in keeping requirements clear, documentation ready, and actions followed up," says Hiring Manager, Babak Kianian.

About NKT

Our company at a glance

In a globalised and interconnected world, with a rapidly increasing population and demand for a modern lifestyle, the need for power is constantly growing. At NKT, we have made it our purpose to bring power to life by helping meet the growing need for energy.

Founded in 1891, during the second industrial revolution, we pioneered the cable industry in the Nordics. Today, we master the fourth industrial revolution with our energy transportation expertise and cost-effective manufacturing facilities at the highest technological level, delivering lifetime value to our customers and the global society.

Trusted partnerships

We take pride in long-term relationships and effortless collaborations, making doing business with us simple, convenient, and efficient. Many of our customers have been with us for decades, maybe because we see ourselves as both their local partner and international supplier, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the right cable solution.

Performing in real life

The environments in which our products and solutions function are often harsh and unfriendly. Laying down a long sea cable on the ocean floor in an unexpected storm or repairing 100-year-old power cables in the ground of a busy metropolis is not for everyone. We know that performance counts in challenging circumstances, and that is when we deliver.
