Support Nordic utility grids with cable applications

Are you motivated by working close to utility networks and the energy transition? As Product Applications Engineer Utilities, you will support customers, sales, and R&D with technical application knowledge for medium- and high‑voltage cable systems. You will contribute to new product development, sustainability, and customer solutions across the Nordic region as part of a global organization. The role combines stakeholder interaction, engineering judgment, and market insight. Are you interested in shaping how cable solutions are applied within modern power grids?

Connect grid requirements with practical cable solutions

In this position, you work as a technical partner for utilities and internal stakeholders, translating grid requirements into product and application input for R&D and commercial teams. You contribute to product roadmaps, new product development, and customer-facing technical support, with a clear focus on cable systems and distribution networks. The role requires collaboration across functions and an understanding of the grid from the perspectives of manufacturers, grid owners, and installation companies.

Your responsibility will be to:

  • Execute product roadmap activities for selected Nordic utility markets
  • Act as first technical contact for customers and sales, gathering market needs
  • Support new product development including testing, validation, and documentation
  • Provide tender support, simulations, electrical calculations, and cable dimensioning
  • Represent NKT in customer meetings, standards work, training sessions, and fairs

The position reports to the Head of TSE, Distribution, and is part of Distribution R&D & Product Development. Falun is the preferred location. However, this role can be remote within Sweden, with regular presence in Falun (initially more frequent, later approx. once every two weeks). Travel across the Nordics occurs occasionally.

Communicative engineer with stakeholder awareness

You work in a structured and cooperative way and enjoy engaging with different stakeholders. You communicate clearly with customers, sales, R&D, and external partners, and you handle technical discussions with professional clarity. You are comfortable working while staying connected to a wider team. You show consideration for different perspectives and build trust through reliable follow‑up and sound technical judgment.

You also have:

  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Experience within the electrical industry, preferably with cables or utility networks
  • Understanding of power grids from manufacturer, grid owner, or installer viewpoints
  • Skills in electrical calculations, cable dimensioning, and application support
  • Fluency in Swedish and English

About NKT

Our company at a glance

In a globalised and interconnected world, with a rapidly increasing population and demand for a modern lifestyle, the need for power is constantly growing. At NKT, we have made it our purpose to bring power to life by helping meet the growing need for energy.

Founded in 1891, during the second industrial revolution, we pioneered the cable industry in the Nordics. Today, we master the fourth industrial revolution with our energy transportation expertise and cost-effective manufacturing facilities at the highest technological level, delivering lifetime value to our customers and the global society.

Trusted partnerships

We take pride in long-term relationships and effortless collaborations, making doing business with us simple, convenient, and efficient. Many of our customers have been with us for decades, maybe because we see ourselves as both their local partner and international supplier, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the right cable solution.

Performing in real life

The environments in which our products and solutions function are often harsh and unfriendly. Laying down a long sea cable on the ocean floor in an unexpected storm or repairing 100-year-old power cables in the ground of a busy metropolis is not for everyone. We know that performance counts in challenging circumstances, and that is when we deliver.
