Mechanical Expert, Waterjets


Welcome at Wärtsilä Netherlands! For our office in Drunen we are looking for a Mechanical Expert for our Waterjets Department. You will find yourself in the technical heart of the exiting world of the Maritime industry. In this position you are part of a small and dedicated team focussing on developing, engineering and implementing all Wärtsilä types of waterjets on board of the fastest vessels all around the world. 
The waterjet is a product that has a high power density and needs to be as light as possible. This in combination with the international marine industry and high environmental standards, is what’s making the Mechanical Design so challenging and interesting.  
As a Mechanical Expert you will be doing a lot more than only designing new Waterjets for our customers. You will also have the chance to support in the development in our new generation waterjets and support our customers in troubleshooting and problem solving of existing products. In addition, you should bring the mechanical design further by providing the right mechanical principals and calculations.
In this position you will be working directly with customers, suppliers, and several Wärtsilä departments such as Sales Support, Project Management, Engineering and Warrantee

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?
  • You assist our sales departments regarding non-standard design questions related to mechanical designs, hydraulics, strength calculations, etc. 
  • For the delivery projects, you are responsible for final calculations of the waterjet, supporting the Design Engineers and providing support on technical issues.
  • Separately, you will work on performance improvements of the waterjet product portfolio. 
  • You define, lead and participate in development projects for waterjet product improvement.
  • You develop tools and methods for waterjet related calculations.
  • Safeguard the waterjet knowledge, development of mechanical tools and developments.
What do we expect from you?
  • You hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design and manufacturing, Aerodynamics or similar. 
  • Preferably you are experienced in designing and calculating mechanical systems in the maritime, automotive or aviation industry.
  • Knowledge of FEM method, and general machine building practices, are seen as an advantage, as well as any experience as a naval architect.
  • You are a strong communicator with good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in the English language, oral and written.
