Design Engineer, Waterjets


Welcome at Wärtsilä Netherlands! For our office in Drunen we are looking for a Design Engineer for our Waterjets Department.
As a Senior Design Engineer in Propulsion Business of Wärtsilä, you will find yourself in the technical heart of the exiting world of the Maritime industry. The Waterjets engineering develops and designs the Wärtsilä waterjets, used on fast ships all around the world.
In this position you are part of our Waterjets department, operating from our office in Drunen in the Netherlands. The waterjet is a product that has a high power density and needs to be as light as possible. This is combined with the marine environment and its dynamics, making the mechanical design an interesting challenge.
In this position, you will work with strategic purchasing, technical services, project management, quality, suppliers and the customers. You will report to our General Manager Product Group Waterjets.
Location: Drunen, the Netherlands
What are your main tasks and responsibilities?
  • You are responsible for the mechanical engineering of the waterjet for delivery projects.
  • You work on project specific designs, as well as working on non-standard solutions specific for our customers worldwide.
  • Together with your colleagues you provide engineering support for our Product Development and R&D projects. 
  • You create engineering solutions and ensure they are applied in new designs.
  • You provide engineering and technical support in the sales phase.
What do we expect from you?
  • You hold a Bachelor degree or Master degree preferably in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • In this position it would be a great benefit if you already have experience designing customer specific mechanical systems in the machine building, maritime or oil & gas industry. 
  • Knowledge of CAD system (preferably NX) and PDM systems (Teamcenter)
  • Naval architect knowledge is a plus, since you will be working with maritime customers.
  • Since we are an international company, you will be working with people from different nationalities across the world, therefor good communication skills in English are a must.
