Technical Documentation Internship/Working Student (Tunnel Boring Machine)
The IHC H1600 tunnel boring machine (TBM) was originally built by Wirth. However, it has been fully refurbished and upgraded by IHC incorporating new machinery and an accompanying control cabin.
The control system is an IHC design, reflecting the latest standards in tunnelling. It provides all the necessary functions to operate and monitor the TBM's performance. This includes a guidance system with laser target and visualisation on the operator's console.
The TBM is a robust machine, with an installed power of 160kW on the cutterhead. This is driven by three hydraulic motors, which are fed from a hydraulic power pack located behind a dedicated shield.
The machine is supplied as a standard product with a mixed ground cutterhead. However, it can also be adapted to cope with specific soil conditions.
The only aspect that needs developing further is the technical documentation. The task of this internship is to ensure that this requirement becomes complete.
In order to achieve this, you will be responsible for:
- searching the archive for existing technical drawings
- rewriting any available texts
- photographing the machine and taking relevant notes.
To be eligible for this role, you must have:
- excellent writing skills
- a technically-oriented mindset
- the ability to work independently
- a technical background, studying maritime technology, mechanical engineering, or business administration with a sufficient focus on technology.
