Royal IHC is looking for a Sensing & Sensor Fusion Engineer to strengthen our Technology & Innovation department. In this role, you will develop sensing capabilities that enable the next generation of intelligent maritime equipment and autonomous systems.

From understanding equipment health and vessel motion to enabling autonomous operations, everything starts with collecting the right data from the real world. You will help determine what to measure, how to measure it, and how to turn sensor data into reliable insights and actions.

You will work with technologies such as cameras, radar, lidar, inertial sensors, fibre-optic sensing and positioning systems. Your work covers the entire process, from sensor selection and integration to data processing, sensor fusion, testing and operational validation.

Working alongside experts in mechanical engineering, control systems, AI, data science and autonomous systems, you will contribute to innovative solutions that shape the future of maritime technology.

Your responsibilities

As a Sensing & Sensor Fusion Engineer, you will:

Analyse sensing requirements for complex maritime applications.
Select, evaluate and prototype sensor solutions.
Develop sensor fusion, signal processing and state-estimation methods.
Integrate sensors into mechanical, electrical and control architectures.
Support AI and data-driven applications through high-quality sensing data.
Perform laboratory testing, prototyping and full-scale validation.
Analyse sensor performance, reliability and robustness in demanding environments.
Contribute to applications such as autonomous operations, object tracking, launch & recovery and condition monitoring.

Your profile

You are technically curious, analytical and eager to learn. While you do not need expertise in every sensing technology, you have strong fundamentals and enjoy working across disciplines.

You have:

A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Systems & Control, Applied Physics (or a related field).
Knowledge of sensors, measurement technology and sensor fusion.
Experience or affinity with signal processing, state estimation or multi-sensor systems.
Interest in AI, computer vision, data science and autonomous systems.
Experience with Python, MATLAB or similar tools.
A practical mindset and interest in testing and validation.
Strong communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus).
