Jan De Nul Group – Dredging

Your Work Context

As an engineer at Jan De Nul in Argentina, you help guide our dredging projects in the country through their execution phase. You might be keeping the navigation channels open that carry Argentina's exports to sea, deepening and maintaining a river or coastal port, or working on a land reclamation or coastal protection scheme. You will experience an intense work-life and gain invaluable expertise along the way.

Jan De Nul has the world's most advanced dredging fleet, designed for efficient marine transport, modern harbors, coastal protection, and reclamation projects. To keep our activities in Argentina running, we have a strong need for talented engineers to follow up our projects here as superintendents.

Your Role

A job with opportunities and responsibilities

At Jan De Nul, we give talented people like you opportunities and responsibilities. Together with your project manager and the project team, you keep one of our dredging projects running day after day. You work on board and on site (minimum 3 days/week), close to the people doing the work, and you make the calls that keep production moving.

Your tasks will be:

  • Plan, supervise and coordinate the daily dredging, survey and dumping operations. You follow up production and survey data, discuss and adjust the working strategy where needed, and keep looking for ways to do it better. Together with the technical department, the master and the crew, you coordinate maintenance, repairs and bunkering so that cycle times stay short and downtime stays low.
  • Set the tone on health, safety and environment: you lead by example, run toolbox talks and management inspections, make sure permits and risk assessments are in order, and follow up incidents and near-misses together with our QHSSE department.
  • Keep everyone informed. You report on production daily and weekly, agree planning and instructions with all parties involved and confirm them in writing, and you present progress, KPIs and points for escalation in our production and operations meetings. You are also the point of contact for the client, surveyors and the authorities.
  • Supervise and mentor the crew, local and expat alike, and make sure shift handovers keep operations running smoothly. You organise crew changes, rotations, visas and logistics with the office, and you keep an eye on the stores and consumables on board.

Of course, you will not be doing this on your own: you can rely on the support of your project manager and colleagues in different disciplines within the project team.

What you need

  • A master’s degree in industrial sciences or a master’s in engineering sciences, or related master’s degree.

  • The indispensable mindset of a solution seeker

  • The passion to dive into the world of dredging solutions

  • Planning and organisation talent

  • Teamwork skills

  • Thirst for adventure, coupled with an independent spirit

  • Entitled to live and work in Argentina on a permanent basis (DNI or permanent residency)
