We offer you an Ocean of Possibilities. Join our family.

About us

Risk management within Damen Shipyards Group has taken a significant step forward with the introduction of the Group Risk Board in 2019. This independent advisory body supports the Executive Board in decision-making for projects above a defined contract threshold during the commercial phase of the project lifecycle.

At divisional level, risk management is actively embedded in daily operations. Multidisciplinary teams identify and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle, while the Group Risk Management team defines the overarching risk framework, standards and methodologies, and provides guidance and support to the divisions.

As a Risk Manager at Group level, you operate at the intersection of strategy, projects and governance. For selected complex or high-impact projects, you are directly involved — from the commercial phase through execution — ensuring that risks are identified early, well understood and actively managed.

The role

As Risk Manager (Group), you play a key role in strengthening risk awareness and decision-making across Damen. You work closely with project teams, divisional management and Group stakeholders to ensure that operational, financial and contractual risks are transparently assessed and effectively mitigated.

This is a hands-on, advisory role with real influence: you lead risk workshops, translate complex risks into clear insights, and help teams make better-informed choices. The role is primarily based at Group level, with limited travel (approximately once per quarter).

Key accountabilities

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct risk assessments during the commercial and execution phases of shipbuilding and related projects
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary risk workshops with stakeholders from Engineering, Project Management, Finance, Legal and Supply Chain
  • Identify, analyze and prioritize operational, financial, contractual and planning risks, and support teams in defining practical mitigation measures
  • Maintain and further develop project risk registers, ensuring consistency with Group standards
  • Support divisions in applying the Group risk management framework, tools and ways of working
  • Analyze risk trends across projects, identify recurring themes and contribute to continuous improvement and lessons learned
  • Provide clear risk insights and reports to divisional management and, where relevant, the Group Risk Board

Skills & experience

We are looking for a Risk Manager who brings structure, judgement and communication skills:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Engineering, Naval Architecture, Business Administration or similar)
  • 3–5 years of experience in risk management, project control, project management or a related role, preferably in technically complex project environments (e.g. shipbuilding, manufacturing, infrastructure, energy)
  • Experience with operational and financial risk assessments and defining mitigation strategies
  • Familiarity with enterprise or project risk management frameworks (e.g. ISO 31000) is a strong plus
  • Ability to analyze risk information, recognize patterns and translate insights into clear recommendations
  • Strong communication skills in English and Dutch, with confidence to facilitate workshops and engage senior stakeholders
  • A proactive, structured and independent working style, with the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel

What we offer

At Damen, you will join a professional and growing Group Risk function, where your expertise and development are taken seriously. We offer:

  • A Group-level role with exposure to diverse projects across the Damen organization
  • Limited travel (approximately once per quarter) and a healthy work–life balance
  • The salary for this position ranges between € 4.500 and € 6.000 gross per month (based on a full-time contract), excluding holiday allowance. The exact salary will depend on your knowledge and experience. This position is part of the colllective labour agreement Metalektro.
  • A dynamic, international and technology-driven working environment
  • Opportunities for professional growth, learning and development within risk management and project environments
  • An open and socially active company culture, with room for initiative and ownership

Are you a Risk Manager looking to deepen your impact in a complex, project-driven environment — without constant travel?
Then this role at Damen Shipyards Group offers the scope, influence and development you are looking for.
