Service Engineer

For our Service Unit in Schiedam we are looking for a Service Engineer to support our customers in all our Electrical Propulsion Controls field service activities.
 
As a Service Engineer you will be working on international commissioning, troubleshooting, reconditioning and repair projects of complete ship propulsion systems on mechanical, hydraulically, electrical and control installations. The product range you will be working on consists of controllable pitch propellers, gearboxes, water jets, thrusters and transverse thrusters and associated operating systems. 
 
You are the main contact person for our Service Coordination department and the client on-site. Due to the international and service related character of this position, you must be willing to travel on a regular basis. 
 
What are your main tasks and responsibilities?
  • You perform Field Service activities on propulsion related controls systems on-board of our customer’s vessels. 
  • Problem solving / Fault finding; You diagnose the situation, find the root cause of the problem and solve it by means of replacing parts, adjusting operational parameters etc.
  • Act as system commissioning engineer in case of reconditioning, retrofit or upgrade projects. 
  • Interact with the customer during the work execution and offer advice about available products and solutions where needed.
  • Ensure that the work is executed according to Wärtsilä Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines and customer site procedures. 
  • You create excellent service work reports in English. 
 
What do we expect from you?
  • You hold a vocational or bachelor degree in electrical engineering or mechatronics, combined with several years of field service experience. 
  • You are experienced in Electrical, Controls and hydraulic systems, preferably within a maritime, industrial or oil & gas related industry.  
  • Understanding of propulsion equipment such as but not limited to; engines and control systems, mechanical and electrical drives and movers, thrusters, gear boxes, controllable pitch propellers and hydraulics is a big advantage.
  • You can work independently, but are also able to guide a group of colleagues and contractors during scheduled maintenance or repair.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and stay abroad.
  • You have an open and accessible attitude in communication.
  • Fluent in English both spoken and written, preferably also in Dutch.
